Kambia Ecowatch Project Update
YARDOSL continues its relentless effort in promoting youth-led environmental stewardship at the grass-root level.
It is in this regard that the organization launched the Kambia Ecowatch project in April 2019.
Kambia Ecowatch is an initiative to promote environmental sustainability in Kambia District. The project has operations in 3 pillars:
- 1-Environmental Research, Education and Advocacy
- Reforestation
- Climate-smart Agriculture.
The project has a five-year mandate. And So far, through support from the ministry of the environment, the project has recently planted 4,000 trees (cashew) at Kayomina Village in Dixon Chiefdom. With support from UNDP GEF Small Grant Program, the project has trained 50 young people as Climate Action Ambassadors from across all the 9 chiefdoms in the district.
The project has continued its outreach program to up to 20 schools and impacts over 2,000 school kids in the district to raise awareness on environmental issues such as deforestation and single plastic usage.
Using radio broadcast, the project is continuing to educate the masses about every citizen’s responsibility in protecting the environment for a sustainable and prosperous society
